... Wait - is it even winter yet? At least the daylight is getting longer now. Just waiting on a groundhog to give me my winter weather forecast.
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

Two thoughts:
California is a long way away ... from many places.
AND
College football is WAY too exciting not to go to a live game at least once each year.

Tired of the hate
I know, not everyone hates. But some days it is hard to believe it. Whites hate blacks. Blacks hate whites. Replublicans hate democrats. People on the left hate people on the right. Religious fanatics hate each other or someone else. Frankly, I am tired of all the bullshit and the hatred in our country. The only thing I really feel like I can try to do about it, though, is to not give in to it - or at least try. Time is wasted being angry and hating people (or groups of people).
Life is precious. And it is not a competition (though everything we do speaks to us that it is). Life is a team sport - and we are ALL on the same team. Surround yourself with positive, motivated, successful people and get something done - for the good of all. Think of your neighbors. Move forward ... and together. Believe. Act. Serve. Inspire.
Love.

American Football Infraction: False Start
definition: An infraction in which an offensive player moves before the ball is snapped.
example: During the last drive against the University of Wisconsin, the Michigan State left tackle moved forward before the ball was snapped - without, in fact, drawing a penalty flag that was required by the above definition.

"Our lives are not determined by what happens to us but by how we react to what happens, not by what life brings to us, but by the attitude we bring to life. A positive attitude causes a chain reaction of positive thoughts, events, and outcomes. It is a catalyst, a spark that creates extraordinary results."

A Thing of Beauty (Endymion)
- by John Keats
A thing of beauty is a joy for ever:
Its lovliness increases; it will never
Pass into nothingness; but still will keep
A bower quiet for us, and a sleep
Full of sweet dreams, and health, and quiet breathing.
Therefore, on every morrow, are we wreathing
A flowery band to bind us to the earth,
Spite of despondence, of the inhuman dearth
Of noble natures, of the gloomy days,
Of all the unhealthy and o'er-darkn'd ways
Made for our searching: yes, in spite of all,
Some shape of beauty moves away the pall
From our dark spirits. Such the sun, the moon,
Trees old and young, sprouting a shady boon
For simple sheep; and such are daffodils
With the green world they live in; and clear rills
That for themselves a cooling covert make
'Gainst the hot season; the mid-forest brake,
Rich with a sprinkling of fair musk-rose blooms:
And such too is the grandeur of the dooms
We have imagined for the mighty dead;
An endless fountain of immortal drink,
Pouring unto us from the heaven's brink.
Its lovliness increases; it will never
Pass into nothingness; but still will keep
A bower quiet for us, and a sleep
Full of sweet dreams, and health, and quiet breathing.
Therefore, on every morrow, are we wreathing
A flowery band to bind us to the earth,
Spite of despondence, of the inhuman dearth

Steve Scheibner's life objective
To seek, trust, and glorify God, through humble service and continual prayer. To raise up qualified disciples as quickly as possible. So that one day I might hear God say, "Well-done my good and faithful servant!" - Steve

The NBA - it's FANtastic
... or not.
I'm trying to decide whether I'm rooting for the players or the owners. It's kind of like the NHL. I grew up with hockey all around me - except no NHL team for whom to root. So, who do I root for?
Right now, I'm rooting for the fans! I liked the NFL players' commercials: "Let us play!"
http://www.youtube.com/embed/Jl9BpUgYljQ
For the NBA, I want to go with something similar: "Let them stay!"
Take a year off. I don't care. Maybe GOOD basketball will come back. Maybe not. But really, who cares?! Except maybe fans can actually gain from this ... by not spending all their hard-earned money on an inferior product.

Stupid signs
Are our prisons really that easy from which to escape? Really? Should I be scared?
Don't know about that 'INSTANT DEATH' but I don't want to pay a $200 fine, so I ain't touching those wires.
Not sure about the dog, but I certainly feel "Lucky" now ... after reading his description.

Frustration personified ...
When you don't even know what you're talking about anymore ...
... or you're just dumb enough (and bull-headed enough) to continue arguing ...
... and common sense would be a better choice than sticking to the 'rules', guidelines or platform ...
... use your brain before you talk, please (or ... print a sign, apparently).

What is it that set's us free?
What is it that gives us the strength to be ourselves? Is it our ability to love, with no strings attached? Is it that love that will save us?

My son cried at football practice
It's not like it was a bawling cry. He didn't keep practice from continuing with a full onslaught of tears and screams. He didnt' stand in the middle of the field and wail, with his hands over his eyes.
But it also wasn't a cry of pain. He didn't get hurt. He didn't just lose the last game of his college career. He's in flag football. It was practice. He got disciplined by a coach because he wasn't following directions.
So, my take on this all: Maybe we shouldn't be playing 2nd grade flag football. Maybe it's too soon.
I don't know. I'm just a guy who would love for kids to pay attention to coaches and be able to follow directions so that they can learn how to have fun PLAYING the game. My son did tell me that Thursday's practice was better than Tuesday's because, "We learned to not 'pig-pile' in the end zone." Yes, son. That's nice. But ... dude ...
